by The Participator – 12 Feb 2018
Please remember this is not supposed to be a complete roundup of all important news in the week, these are just particular items that caught our interest.
From the Express:
BREXIT SHOCK: 37 new EU rules Britain would have to abide by in a transitional deal
Macron is backing a new political party in the UK called “Renew”, from the Sun:
LES SABOTEURS New anti-Brexit ‘Renew Party’ to be launched in Britain backed by French pro-EU politicians
We invite Yvette Cooper, Andy Burnham, Chuka Umunna, Anna Soubry etc. to join the new party! En Marche! Does Macron suffer from a Napoleon complex, we wondered?
George Soros has also been in the news a lot of course this week, something about a £400,000 donation. From the Daily Telegraph:
George Soros defends £400,000 donation to pro-EU campaign
Clearly it’s not so much the Russians we need to be worrying about.
From the Daily Telegraph:
Former soldier James Matthews who fought against Isil faces terrorism charges
This seems to us to contrast rather starkly with this story, also from the Daily Telegraph:
Extremists and returning jihadists ‘offered council house bribes to reintegrate’
See also (from Breitbart):
May Govt Admits ‘Significant Portion’ of Returned Islamic State Jihadists Going Unpunished, Roaming Free
“There is strong demand from the public to know how many who travelled to fight foreign jihad are currently free in British communities. Those men and women are escaping justice, despite having been prepared to fight British troops in the name of a sickeningly evil cause“
See the parliamentary debate in detail here:
British Jihadis (Iraq and Syria)
From Voice of Europe, chastity belts are apparently becoming popular in Germany:
German women in fear: New anti-rape pants sell out very quickly
They have a pull cord which sets off a rape alarm. On the subject of rape alarms, a new movement in Germany is going a bit viral at the moment highlighting the wave of sexual attacks that has hit Europe in the wake of the migrant crisis. The 120db movement is named after the volume of rape alarms:
From Gatestone Institute:
Germany’s Migrant Rape Crisis Spirals out of Control
Suppression of data about migrant rapes is “Germany-wide phenomenon.”
There are strict instructions from the top not to report offenses committed by refugees
Given all that has happened in Europe since the huge recent waves of immigration started arriving from Africa and the Middle East, we were surprised to hear that Sweden is considering actively recruiting migrants for “defense organizations” where it is assumed they will be given weapons training.
From Jihad Watch:
Sweden: “Center-right” parties propose enrolling Muslim migrants in volunteer defense organizations
Interestingly Sputnik News has reported on this story but it hasn’t received much attention in the European press (more on Sputnik News in a minute).
Swedes Seethe Over Proposal to Engage Migrants in Volunteer Defense
As far as we can determine they are just relaying the news reported elsewhere however, from the Fria Tider news outlet:
The Alliance wants to recruit newly arrived immigrants to the volunteer defense
Here is the report, from the UK Government website:
The independent review into the application of sharia law in England and Wales
The report makes a distinction between Sharia Councils and Muslim Arbitration Panels (MATs). Very few women apparently sit on Sharia Councils (now there’s a surprise). The councils mostly deal with divorces, whereas the MATs mostly deal with commercial issues. The MATs do also deal with family matters (about 10% of their workload) including divorces.
Quote regarding MATs:
operates under the Arbitration Act 1996 to provide binding arbitration services for commercial issues
The report concludes by saying that closing the Sharia councils is not a viable option, and hopes that the increasing (civil) registration of Islamic marriages will instead simply reduce the demand for these councils.
In case you weren’t aware, the UK police is increasingly preoccupied with policing our thoughts instead of prosecuting real crimes. From Breitbart:
UK Police Threaten Public over ‘Islamophobic’ Tweets on FGM Awareness Day? Despite ZERO FGM Convictions
It’s odd but this day was really supposed to be about raising awareness of FGM, a vicious practice that is still not being prosecuted. From the Independent:
FGM case reported in England every 109 minutes
Knives can now be carried legally if you are scared in post-Brexit Britain apparently. From the Daily Telegraph:
French student who took knife to nightclub walks free as ‘he was scared to live in Britain after Brexit vote’
This is in the background of the Brexit vote when he first started his degree and disproportionate reporting in the press,” Ms Minett said.
We wonder if the court would have reached the same decision if he had been suffering from “Islamophobia”.
The right wing newspaper the Daily Express is to be bought out by the very left wing Mirror group. From Reuters:
Daily Mirror owner scoops Express, OK! titles for £127 million
News that we aren’t sure is good or bad..
From the Evening Standard:
Brexit latest: Britain will ‘categorically’ leave customs union as Theresa May prepares for fresh talks with EU
Lots of claims and counter claims this week around whether or not Russia manipulated the US and UK voters in Trump/Brexit.
From the Guardian:
Social media firms must tell users exposed to Brexit propaganda, MP says
The head of a parliamentary inquiry into allegations of Russian interference in the EU referendum has said social media companies should notify British voters who may have been exposed to falsehoods and propaganda spread during the campaign.
Some of the Russian company’s most shared media articles on Brexit were found to have achieved 200m “impressions” for tweets.
Mike Harris, CEO of 89up, said the Kremlin-backed news channels had three times greater impact on Twitter than both the official Leave campaigns combined.
However is a comparison of news channels with Leave campaigns really a fair comparison? If we look at alexa.com we see that rt.com is ranked 354 (data not even available for sputniknews.com) in the UK, whereas news sites that tend to be euro-sceptic are ranked a lot higher in the UK:
Also the simple fact that rt.com articles are being tweeted doesn’t tell us anything at all about the accuracy of those articles or even what they were about.
We wonder if the impact of pro Remain propaganda from the Guardian (e.g. this article from May 2016) should also be investigated:
Is there a secret plan to create an EU army?
Claims from the leave side about moves to unify Europe’s armed forces are nothing more than fantasy
An article from the Guardian in 2016:
The Brexit drippers: how Eurosceptic papers wage their propaganda war
Rather a different view from Breitbart of course:
Damian Collins: Britain’s Russian Inquiry Chief is a Hardline Remainer, Quoted Soros, Spread Govt Fake News Over Brexit
Vast Majority of Under-35 Italians Now Oppose Mass Migration
Also from Italy, Silvio Berlusconi is trying to make a comeback with a promise to deport 600,000 illegal immigrants:
Italy Elections: Berlusconi Declares He Will Deport 600,000 ‘Time Bomb’ Illegal Migrants
This comes in the wake of the arrest of a Nigerian drug dealer who has been accused of the horrific murder of a teenage girl:
Italian Teen Girl Killed and Chopped Into Pieces, Nigerian Migrant Arrested
Rebecca Sommer, a German artist/journalist/activist who worked with UN and NGOs and campaigned to help the (mostly fake) refugees come to Germany, appears to have had a damascene conversion. She believed they would change on arrival in Europe, be won over by our European culture, and lose their medieval attitudes. Cologne 2015 was a turning point for her apparently, now she says that:
Then I finally had to admit to myself that this type of behavior describes the overwhelming majority of Muslims with whom I had to deal with in my life.
This is quite a startling claim and probably puts her at risk of arrest in today’s Germany. If she is correct then the risk of further unpleasant experiences for Germany’s women as long as the migrants remain.
See the full story here (an extremely illuminating and thought-provoking account if it’s an accurate translation), from Vlad Tepes:
“Those people who ate with me, drank, danced, laughed - they talk about me as ‘stupid German whore’.”
Note that someone claiming to be the real Rebecca Sommer has replied under the article at Gates of Vienna where the translation was also published under the rather provocative title:
A “Stupid German Whore” Changes Her Mind
In the comment “she” says that the translation is not accurate.
