Other Items That Caught Our Eye This Week - w/e 28 July

by The Participator – 30 Jul 2018

It came as no surprise to us that the EU had rejected May’s latest plan. From the Express:

Brexit BOMBSHELL: Barnier rejects UK customs proposal - EU kills off May’s soft exit plan

As the MPs head off for summer recess there were claims that May has left former communist Olly Robbins in control of Brexit. From the Express:

‘It fails the sniff test!’ Anger as Remainer civil servant granted TOTAL CONTROL of Brexit

Jacob Rees-Mogg grilled Olly at a committee meeting From the Express:

Rees-Mogg asks WHO IS RUNNING BREXIT elected politicians or faceless career civil servants

“Things were going on that the department that were meant to be in charge of it was unaware of.

Preparations for a no-deal Brexit are continuing apparently, but it’s not going to be pretty, according to the MSM. Brexit catastrophization went into overdrive this week in the MSM, it almost seemed as if they were singing from the same hymn sheet, almost as if they were being controlled by the same unseen big fat controller.

First, sandwich shortages were threatened by the BBC:

Brexit threat to sandwiches

More ominously, The Guardian anticipated a national food crisis:

Brexit provides the perfect ingredients for a national food crisis

Then things got a lot more serious. From the Evening Standard:

Brexit could lead to spread of infectious diseases such as super-gonorrhoea, health chief warns

You might have thought that better border security might lead to less risk of STDs, but no. Diabetes patients will be at risk according to the Independent:

Brexit: Millions of diabetes patients could be ‘seriously disadvantaged’ by insulin shortages if no deal reached

The army is on standby ready for the Brexit catastrophe according to the Times (note the wording):

Army on standby for no-deal Brexit emergency

Also from the BBC the anti-“fake” news campaign continues (and no the irony is not lost on us after all the above articles):

Fake news a democratic crisis for UK, MPs warn

MPs will suggest social media companies should face tougher regulation or a new tax.

Be afraid, be very afraid, the new Director of Public Prosecutions is Max Hill QC, yes the one who thinks poor jihadis are just misunderstood. From Breitbart:

Terror Watchdog Boss Who Wanted Jihadis to ‘Reintegrate’ Is New Chief Prosecutor

“I am honoured to be the next Director of Public Prosecutions. I am grateful to Alison Saunders for her service and look forward to building on her legacy.”

Our pleasure at seeing the end of Alison Saunders’s time in the position has been shortlived. Max Hill speaks in glowing terms about the “world’s great religions” in this short clip:

WATCH | Meet the new Director of Public Prosecutions. He didn't want to arrest teenage jihadis because they were just "naive". Here he is tying himself in knots saying it's "fundamentally wrong" to use the phrase "Islamist terrorism"

Out of the social justice frying pan, into the hellfire?

Jihadis sent to USA may face death penalty. From The Daily Telegraph:

Why does it appear there is one law for jihadis, and one for the rest?

From the Express:

UK agrees to take Syrian asylum seekers and White Helmet workers following Israel rescue

There have been claims and counter claims about the White Helmets. From the Guardian (from last year):

How Syria’s White Helmets became victims of an online propaganda machine

The above article includes a rather laughable attempt to defend the mannequin challenge video as “out of context”.

From Breitbart:

Illegal Migrant Sea Crossings to Europe in 2018 Break 55,000

From Breitbart:

Italy Slashes Asylum Seeker Benefit Payments

Some of the migrants are quite demanding, we have noticed this before. From USA Patriot Voice:

Watch: Migrants in Italy protest against the shelter provided by The Red Cross “We want private rooms”

From Voice of Europe:

Italy is toughening up, wants zero tolerance policy for criminal asylum seekers

Perhaps some indication of the problems that Italy will face with the ECHR when it tries to get tough on the migrant crisis, from Aen:

ECHR suspends clearing of Roma camp in Rome

Won’t giving financial incentives just encourage more people smuggling, we wondered? From Breitbart:

Salvini Rejects EU’s ‘Insulting’ Offer to Pay Italy €6,000 for Every New Migrant

From Voice of Europe:

600 Africans storm Spanish border using exceptional violence - Four border guards hospitalised

The same story from The Daily Mail:

Almost 600 migrants storm border fence and attack security forces with quicklime to make it into Spain’s North African enclave of Ceuta from Morocco

The socialist govt. in Spain has a cunning plan to remove the barbed wired to make it easier for the migrants to invade. From Voice of Europe (from June):

Spain’s socialist government wants to remove barbed wire from border between Europe and Africa

We are seeing an increasing number of stories suggesting that wild fires are being started deliberately by arsonists, and we began to wonder if there might be any particular motivation besides vandalism. From Voice of Europe:

Pakistani migrant arrested for trying to set fire in Greece

The above article links to the Jerusalem Post:

ISIS calls on recruits to copy arson terror method used in Israel

From the Independent.

Greece wildfire: Authorities suspect arson triggered country’s deadliest blaze in decades

The fire killed 82 people.

From the Daily Mail:

Frank Field also lost a no-confidence vote. From the Guardian:

Is this the woman behind the de-selections? From the Guardian:

Momentum leader calls for deselection of MPs who voted with Tories

Laura Parker, the leader of the pro-Corbyn pressure group, accused Kate Hoey, Frank Field, John Mann and Graham Stringer of having “stood in our way”

We’re not sure where the threats against Sarah Champion are coming from, but the anti-terror police were involved apparently according to the Daily Mail:

Terror police boost MP’s security after she is accused of racism by activists for condemning the grooming of girls by Asian sex gangs

From the BBC (no mention of UK aid to this country):

South Sudan spends $16m on cars for MPs

From the UK government:

New UK aid support for South Sudan
