The annual “silly season” (the period when the politicians are mostly on holiday as are the schoolchildren) is upon us.

The big non-story this week is of course the Boris Johnson burqa comment controversy. Boris didn’t call for a ban, he just made some offhand remark about the burqa (possibly it wasn’t as offhand as it seemed however, it could be a very carefully calculated move designed to win public support for a leadership bid).

UKIP Daily had a theory about why there had been such a media storm over the non-story:

No - our, the Nation’s attention has been masterly deflected from three reports by a Times investigation into how the Home Office - formerly led by our current PM - has actually helped rapists and abusers of women to come into this country.

See the full article for more details:

A Perfect Example of Deflection - a.k.a. “Look - a Squirrel!”

Brandon Lewis the Tory party chairman is apparently a politically correct zealot who has vowed to “stamp out Islamophobia” in the party. The party more generally seems rather divided on the issue however. From the Express, Nigel Farage interviews Jacob Rees-Mogg on the subject for LBC:

BORIS BURKA ROW: Jacob Rees-Mogg fumes May setting Johnson up for a show trial

Also from the Express:

‘What happened to freedom of expression?’ – Tory OUTRAGE following Boris burka BLUNDER

… the party’s code of conduct, which states Tory MPs and other holders of public office should “foster respect and tolerance” in their work.

The Guardian predicted a rise in hate crime as a result of Boris’s remarks (comments disabled under this article but you can tell us what you think about the Guardian’s claim in our comment section below if you like):

Belittled by burqa row, British Muslims fear rise in hate crime

A Conservative peer called Mohamed Sheikh said Boris should be kicked out of the party according to the BBC:

Boris Johnson burka row: Tories should ditch MP, peer says

The faux hysteria reached fever pitch with calls for Boris to be sent on a “diversity training course” and someone even apparently reported him to the police, from Breitbart:

Blasphemy: May Demands Boris Apologise for Burqa ‘Letterbox’ Comment, Reported to Police

Rod Liddle’s reaction in the Spectator said something about not ENOUGH Islamophobia in the Tory party but the article was soon edited to say something else (paywall):

Why Boris is wrong about burkas

Guido Fawkes reminded us that both comedians at the BBC and the Guardian writer Polly Toynbee have made similar jokes and comments about the burqa:

BBC and Guardian Also Mocked Burqa As Letterbox

The hypocrisy is quite astonishing.

The Western world inched closer to a dystopian Orwellian future this week. Facebook took down some Infowars content, and Youtube banned an Alex Jones Channel as well. From the New York Times, an article giving a blow by blow account of the events and decision making process behind them:

Facebook Banned Infowars. Now What?

According to Alexa.com, Infowars.com has shot up by 339 places to be now ranked 3,475th in the world in the wake of the news.

The Infowars website is also no longer allowed to use the Disqus commenting system (yes, that’s the one that we use as well):

Alex Jones: Disqus Takes Us Down After 6 Years To Appease Apple & China

Infowars was allowed to continue as normal on Twitter but the conservative commentator Gavin McInnes (formerly of Rebel Media and not exactly literally Hitler) was banned. From Breitbart:

Twitter Bans Conservative Commentator Gavin McInnes

Hang on a minute, why aren’t there any left wing extremists or Muslims calling for violent jihad in the spotlight at the moment? The Ayatollah of Iran threatened to “eradicate” Israel in a tweet according to this article from Fast Company:

Why won’t Twitter suspend Iran’s Supreme Leader after threatening tweet?

Meanwhile of course the New York Times’s own “journalist” Sarah Jeong was free to continue to spread her vile anti-white hatred on that very same platform, for example:

Are white people genetically predisposed to burn faster in the sun, thus logically being only fit to live underground like groveling goblins

— sarah jeong (@sarahjeong) December 24, 2014

oh man it's kind of sick how much joy I get out of being cruel to old white men

— sarah jeong (@sarahjeong) July 24, 2014

If anyone has a theory about exactly what McInnes did that was worse than the above “hate speech” then please feel free to enlighten us in the comments below. Perhaps Twitter were worried about falling revenues if infowars and all its 430,000 followers were excluded. Alex Jones himself currently has 885,000 followers on Twitter and Paul Joseph Watson has 902,000 followers. That’s quite a lot of advertisement revenue generating customers to alienate, no wonder Twitter prefers to “shadow ban” people!

Candace Owens apparently repeated some of the tweets but replaced the word white with the word black and was immediately suspended. From The Gateway Pundit:

Wow! Candace Owens Copies Racist Tweets by Sarah Jeong but Replaces “White” with “Black” …. IS IMMEDIATELY SUSPENDED!

The Wall Street Journal had this claim:

Facebook to Banks: Give Us Your Data, We’ll Give You Our Users

Just imagine if the banks start getting involved in the censorship of right wing voices as well.

There is also a less visible form of censorship being practiced by big tech firms. An article from US News looks at the various ways that Google in particular manipulates what is seen:

The New Censorship

Not all of us agreed with the article’s conclusion however – that governments must regulate big tech firms. We also saw this related article at Breitbart:

Exclusive - Robert Epstein: Who Gave Private Big Tech Companies the Power to Decide What We Can See?

The news from Rebel Media is that there is now a date for the re-trial, which is September 4th:

They’re trying to send Tommy Robinson back to prison. (Please help.)

Also in the news is the story that Tommy Robinson has forced The Times to retract an accusation that he is a “girlfriend-beater”. From Gates of Vienna a clip of Paul Weston sharing his opinions on the incident:

“You Daft Bint!”

Let’s hope that he sues The Times for libel! Time to expose fake news!

From the Express:

Iran CIVIL WAR brewing: Fury at ‘corrupt’ regime - ‘they make us poorer every day’

DEFY TRUMP: EU orders firms to IGNORE America and carry on trading with Iran

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini urged business to ignore US sanctions and increase trade with Iran.

Federica Mogherini is the former (?) Communist who is the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

The UK govt. led by Theresa May does not approve of the US policy:

UK Foreign Office minister Alastair Burt told the BBC that the “Americans have really not got this right”.

However the Trump administration has called for the UK to join the US and ignore the EU:

Abandon Europe! US urges Britain to join Donald Trump and QUIT Iran nuclear deal

From Voice of Europe:

Another Trump win: Germany’s Central Bank stops $400 Million Cash delivery to Iran

UK taxpayers are faced with another huge legal aid bill after 3 rapists decided that they preferred not to be deported but then lost their appeal. From the Daily Mail:

Three men from Rochdale child sex gang are stripped of British citizenship and will now be booted out of country as top judges blast their reign of terror as ‘serious organised crime’

They have been given legal aid to fight deportation - after already receiving more than a £1million to unsuccessfully defend criminal charges.

From Breitbart:

REPORT: Soldiers Who Criticise Army’s Pro-Islam, Politically Correct Recruitment Videos Face Disciplinary

From Breitbart:

White Male Professors to be Trained on ‘Bias’ by Non-White Females in Govt-Backed Scheme

Quite why this is deemed necessary for the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council we don’t know.

From NL Times:

Hague anti-Islam politician dies in apparent suicide after gang rape claim

Youtuber Red Pill Phil discusses the bizarre events of the trial at length with a man who was present who says that she was rambling and making extraordinary claims, and was not fit to stand trial:

Another Youtuber “Reverend Simon Sideways” also reported after attending the trial and also said Melanie was certainly not fit to stand trial.

She is apparently a survivor of the Beechwood children’s home (now closed). She has claimed that children were abused and murdered at the home, and some are claiming that she is being kept in prison and drugged to keep the truth from coming out, claims which have been rejected as conspiracy theories by some. Whatever the truth about the various claims however, what seems beyond doubt is that Melanie has been seriously traumatized by her experiences in the UK’s so-called “care” system.

Here is an article about some of the things that went on at that home, from the Nottingham Post (from February):

How one woman survived the ‘terrifying ordeal’ of Beechwood children’s home to become an inspector

There was a petition for her release (now closed) which contains some more information about her story and a description of an earlier trial:

Free Melanie Shaw

Nottingham council has a page about investigations, which seem to be ongoing according to this:

Allegations of historical child abuse in Nottinghamshire

The famous actress Samantha Morton spent time in care homes as a child and spent some time at the home, she says that “abuse was rife” in Nottinghamshire children’s homes. From the Guardian (2014):

Samantha Morton reveals sexual abuse as child in residential care

According to the above article she made serious allegations of being abused herself in other homes but it was merely recorded as “frolicking”. As Charles Spencer pointed out in the above video interview with Red Pill Phil, the media have taken an interest in Samantha Morton’s allegations but so far they have taken no interest at all in Melanie Shaw’s plight.

Finally on a light-hearted note, we have the story of the “storming of the Bookmarks socialist bookshop” which apparently led to the suspension of a few UKIP members involved including Luke Nash Jones of the Make Britain Great Again outfit. Here is video footage of the whole event:

Bookmarks store protest

The protestors did rip up an anti-Tommy Robinson sign, but apart from that their “storming” of the bookshop left nobody even slightly injured as far as we can see from the footage (or even any damage apart from the sign), which is more than can be said for many “antifa” protests.

Ironically the shadow chancellor John McDonnell (of the anti-semitic Labour party) tried to invoke images of Nazi stormtroopers when he characterized the mild mannered protest thus:

John McDonnell calls for new ‘Anti-Nazi League’ to tackle far-right racism

“With the scale of Tommy Robinson demonstrations, the storming of Bookmarks bookshop, and now Boris Johnson’s Islamophobic comments, we can no longer ignore the rise of far right politics in our society.

Note - Please remember this is not intended to be a comprehensive news round-up, these are just the items that particularly caught our eye this week, and (where indicated) they are not always about recent events.

Note - Please note that we are dependent on the veracity of news reports provided by other news sources. It is not our intention to knowingly quote “Fake News” (except where stated as satire), but we do sometimes quote the BBC when other sources are unavailable.
