The storm clouds are gathering over Europe once again, there may be trouble ahead. One of the things that gives me hope for the future in these darkening days though is the ever growing number of people who are starting to talk, to debate, to make videos and podcasts, and to write online. I often hear people complaining that “we’re talking in an echo chamber, what use is it”, and this sort of sentiment, but in many conversations I am hearing in fact a very healthy variety of opinions are being shared and healthy debate is taking place. Even where people really are talking in an echo chamber often I see ideas developing, information being exchanged, and better quality arguments are being forged. Although the internet has been around for a little while it has taken some time for this big conversation to develop into something meaningful, but I think over time we could see this trend develop into something really world-changing, and we may one day look back on this time as the beginning of a real thought revolution.
