Our weekly roundup of news and opinion articles that we thought were important, mostly UK news but foreign news stories of interest to us as well.


SECRET BREXIT NEWS

A lot of talk this week about a Brexit deal being done in secret. From The Express:

According to The Times, David Davis has called for a cabinet mutiny:

However, only around 40 Conservative MPs are expected to rebel apparently. From The Guardian:

Complaints continue to be made about the plan to effectively keep us in the Customs Union. What does “temporary but not time-limited” mean we wondered? From Brexit Central:

Despite the divisions in the Conservative Party, former leader Ian Duncan Smith insisted they don’t need a new leader. From Reuters:

Finally today (Sunday 14th) we have this final announcement about a finalized deal, from The Express:

TOMMY ROBINSON PICTURED WITH SOLDIERS

Quote:

A spokeswoman said: “Far-right ideology is completely at odds with the values and ethos of the armed forces.”

She added: “The armed forces have robust measures in place to ensure those exhibiting extremist views are neither tolerated nor permitted to serve.”

Imam Asim Hafiz, Islamic religious adviser to the armed forces, said “any form of racism, discrimination or extremism is taken extremely seriously and will be dealt with accordingly“.

Subsequently Sky News reported that one of the soldiers in the photograph was going to be discharged:

The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) was also quoted, Politicalite drew our attention to the MCB’s endorsement of attacks on British armed forces:

Tommy Robinson has also made some comments in the wake of all this about political correctness in army recruitment and says that he is getting a lot of support from soldiers and that many are fed up. Via Vlad Tepes:

BBC FIGHTING NORMATIVITY

The above article states that sexual minorities are “already over-represented as much as fivefold” at the BBC.
