Other Items That Caught Our Eye This Week - w/e 27 April

by The Participator – 28 Apr 2019

Our weekly roundup of news and opinion articles that we thought were important, mostly UK news but foreign news stories of interest to us as well.

— Robin Tilbrook (@RobinTilbrook) April 24, 2019

From the Express:

Opinion from Shy Society:

Why we’re backing the Brexit Party (and you should too)

Quote:

We have really struggled with Nigel Farage since the referendum result. He completely disregarded many of his own supporters overnight and his vanishing act undoubtedly damaged the cause even though you can understand his desire to let the Conservatives finish the job. Brexiteers are well used to being smeared as “racists” and “bigots” by opponents but facing those same insults from somebody on your own side is a very bitter pill to swallow and remains nonsensical to this day. It’s the reason there are still many who cannot forgive and forget.

TOMMY ROBINSON NEWS

Tommy Robinson is standing as an independent candidate in next month’s European Parliament elections. A hit-piece from the Telegraph:

Tommy Robinson in line for up to £2million in taxpayers’ cash if elected to European Parliament

Quote:

Tommy Robinson could exploit EU rules to access millions of pounds of public money if he is elected in May’s European Parliament elections, a Telegraph investigation has revealed.

They are investigating what Tommy COULD do here! We wondered about all the other things that all the other politicians COULD do!

An article from the Metro claimed that Tommy may have breached electoral law:

Far left former Deputy Leader of Liverpool City Council Derek Hatton responded to the news by inciting violence against Tommy (this tweet has been deleted but the account has not been suspended, surely Twitter have violated their own rules by not suspending this account?):

we need to acquaint his face with the pavement

ISLAMOPHOBIA AGENDA

Nora Mulready, a candidate for the Change UK party has been accused of Islamophobia. She wrote about her experience in this article from the Independent:

Since I announced my Change UK candidacy I’ve been accused of Islamophobia - it’s nothing short of a smear campaign

She states that one of the accusations came from the Muslim Council of Britain. In one statement she apparently said that the concerns raised by Tommy Robinson needed to be addressed because they had “hit a societal nerve”.

From Breitbart:

Douglas Murray apparently got hold of the tapes of the New Statesman interview somehow and wrote about them in the Spectator:

The Scruton tapes: an anatomy of a modern hit job

Apparently the obscure pseudo journalist behind the controversy has been asked not to come into the office for a while by his bosses at the New Statesman, according to the Evening Standard:

The Londoner: NS deputy editor in cooler over Scruton

Till things die down a bit …. The far-left publication is launching an internal inquiry according to the above article. Proof that truth tellers are beginning to gain some ground finally against the fake news mainstream media perhaps?

SOCIAL MEDIA CENSORSHIP

From Breitbart:

Facebook Continues Censorship Against Populist Website Politicalite

Carl Benjamin (aka Sargon of Akkad) was banned from Twitter despite the fact that he has not incited violence and he is standing as a candidate in the coming EU elections – will there be howls of outrage about social media election interference from the mainstream media?

Quote:

Attorney General Barr allied himself with one of the weirder conspiracy theories promoted for several years by Donald Trump himself

However later in the same article:

What are initially presented by partisan proponents as definitive endpoints turn out to be just turning points in a much longer saga, with startling new directions for the inquiries.

The Daily Mail had this disparaging headline about the AG (18 April):

Trump’s Mr. Cover-up: Hand-picked attorney general Bill Barr redacted Mueller’s findings – and now gets to spin them at unprecedented press conference

Stefan Molyneux interviewed Jack Posobiec a couple of weeks ago about the recent statements of the AG, giving a very different perspective on the controversy. A number of very interesting points were made in this interview:
