by The Participator – 26 May 2019

Our weekly roundup of news and opinion articles that we thought were important, mostly UK news but foreign news stories of interest to us as well.

From the Express:

Some very good news for a change, but who will replace her? Here are some facts about the contenders.

Boris Johnson

Boris is a founder member of the group “Conservative Friends of Turkey” which campaigns to allow Turkey to join the EU. A quote from their About Us page:

Lobby in favour of Turkish membership of the EU with a stress on Turkey’s role in the bloc, the region and its strong ties to Western institutions

Boris once made his feelings known on camera as well, here is a video clip (only 1 minute long, this is from some years ago admittedly) from Youtube:

British Politician Johnson Wants Turkey To Join The E.U.

…. but what are we saying if we perpetually keep Turkey out of the European Union, just because it’s Muslim?

… try going to Bradford and saying that …

Was this a feeble attempt to bully us into allowing Turkey to join the EU? We will let our readers decide.

Dominic Raab

From the Express:

Dominic Raab: The Brexiteer with karate BLACK belt who brought war criminals to trial

That sounds impressive certainly, a quote from the above (from his resignation letter):

“I cannot support an indefinite backstop arrangement where the EU holds a veto over our ability to exit.”

Perhaps he was just being kind to Theresa May after she had made her resignation speech:

”Dignified as ever, Theresa May showed her integrity. She remains a dedicated public servant, patriot and loyal Conservative.”

He sets out his vision in this article in the Daily Mail:
