Other Items That Caught Our Eye This Week - w/e 4 May

by The Participator – 5 May 2019

Our weekly roundup of news and opinion articles that we thought were important, mostly UK news but foreign news stories of interest to us as well.

The Conservative Party lost 1335 seats, UKIP lost 145 (and held on to only 31 seats), and Labour lost 82. The winners were the Liberal Democrats gaining 703 seats, “OTHERS” gaining 662 seats, and the Greens gaining 194 seats, according to the BBC:

Local elections: Results in maps and charts

Information about turnout does not appear to be available yet, please share a link in the comments section below if you have any info. on that. What does seem to be clear is that an unusual number of people spoiled their ballots (no surprises there then). From ITV News:

Local elections 2019: Voters spoil ballots in anger at Conservatives and Labour’s Brexit stance

Commentary from Brendan O’Neill on the local elections:

“The establishment has no idea how angry people are about the betrayal of Brexit. In the local elections many people spoiled their votes or just wrote the word ‘BREXIT’ across their ballot papers. A storm of democratic anger is brewing in the country.”

The For Britain party gained its first seats in councils:

Local elections 2019 results: Far-right For Britain Movement wins first elected councillors

This was in spite of the efforts of the so-called “Hope Not Hate” group:

This is a leaflet Hate Not Hope distributed in Epping Forest. You’ll notice that they’ve cut Nissar Hussain from a photo of an event we held in the area. Disgusting Liars. But it isn’t working. pic.twitter.com/Cf5e1yUtIh

— For Britain (@ForBritainParty) May 3, 2019

Nissar Hussain is the ex-Muslim who was violently attacked in Bradford after converting to Christianity. Of course his presence in the photo would ruin the HnH narrative so they cut him out.

From the Express:

Theresa May to miss EU exit deadline AGAIN – unless MPs pass bill NEXT WEEK

The prospect of a “compromise” customs union deal with Corbyn was repeatedly mentioned. From the Express:

DESPERATE Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn to finalise Brexit deal ‘STITCH UP’ next week

Nigel Farage responded:

Farage warns May Brexit compromise is the ‘FINAL BETRAYAL’ – ‘No point in Tories existing’

An article from Martin Howe QC:

From the Sun:

Opinion from Conservative Woman:

Why May put Huawei before security

Theresa May’s government wants to hand over the development of Britain’s digital infrastructure to a company which is obliged to co-operate with the Chinese state in intelligence, and which Britain’s allies have warned Britain against for years.

From the Express:

Gavin Williamson ‘planning’ bombshell speech likely to trigger Theresa May’s DOWNFALL

From the Express:

RED MONEY: Minister calls for sweeping CRACKDOWN on Lords in pay of Russians and Chinese

Tommy Robinson was on the campaign trail this week for the European Elections. Many in the media were jubilant when he was attacked, particularly in response to one incident where a man tipped a milkshake over Tommy’s head. From the Daily Mail:

Shocking moment Tommy Robinson repeatedly PUNCHES man who tipped milkshake on his head - the SECOND time EDL founder is doused with drink in two days during MEP campaign trail

Apparently South Wales Police “liked” a tweet that included a clip of the incident:

Can @SWPSwansea (South Wales Police) explain why they liked this tweet?
Serious question. pic.twitter.com/ZeDq97lOTr

— AltNewsMedia (@AltNewsMedia) May 4, 2019

There were many comments from people who encouraged others to commit similar attacks againsts Tommy. David Lammy (Labour MP) incited violence against Tommy in this tweet (see also screenshot in the title picture at the top of the page):

Young people have the power to stop the rise of the hard right. You know what to do [oncoming fist symbol] https://t.co/e8gg70K2m6

— David Lammy (@DavidLammy) May 4, 2019

Does this constitute direct and CREDIBLE incitement though, what do you think? Should we report Lammy to the police?

We were reminded of the fact that when a protestor threw an egg at Jeremy Corbyn not so long the man was convicted and jailed. From the Metro (March):

Brexiteer jailed for throwing egg at Jeremy Corbyn shouting ‘respect the vote’

We were also reminded of this earlier similar incident from 2001 involving Labour politician John Prescott, from the Telegraph:

Prescott punches a protester

The above incident with the milkshake was not by any means the only time Tommy was attacked this week, Tommy responds to the media coverage in this Youtube video, quite a few punches were thrown:

Tommy Robinson ATTACKED on campaign trail

There was also an anti-white people hate incident, short video clip in this tweet (see it, report it, sorted):

This is what REAL racism looks like.

Please RT because the MSM will ignore it or find some way to blame the (white) victims.

The Islamophobia Agenda advanced a step last week with the adoption of the “Islamophobia Defined” report by all of Scotland’s political parties, according to Holyrood:

The definition classifies discrimination against Muslims as a form of racism

From Jihad Watch:

British Activist Sentenced for Denying Existence of Moderate Islam

From 2018:

London’s Hackney Council Sends ‘Enforcement Officers’ to Mosques to Ask for ‘Hate Crime’ Reports

From the parliament website:

Sharia Law Courts

When approaching this issue, I am aware that the charge of Islamophobia may be levelled against us, but it is right that we consider sharia law courts or councils in terms of their conformity with the European convention on human rights, just as we do with other aspects of UK society.

The Jewish Chronicle published this article written by Richard Walton, who is apparently a former Head of Counter Terrorism Command in the Met Police:

Islamist extremism remains a bigger threat than the far-right

The above article mentions a survey of 16,500 Jews in 12 member states of the EU in 2018 that recorded claims of anti-semitic harassment. The survey results showed that perpetrators were more likely to be left-wing (21%) than right-wing (13%), and more likely still to be Muslim (31%). The article also mentions a UK report from the CST which recorded that just 5% of anti-semitic attacks showed some evidence of a “right-wing” persuasion.

Birmingham Mail had these instructions for companies with Muslim employees:

Ramadan 2019 – What bosses must do to support staff during the month of fasting

The key word in that headline seems to be the word “must” to us.

(This story is from a couple of years ago but it resurfaced and we hadn’t come across it at the time.)

It seems some are more equal before the law than others. When you feel like stealing and slaughtering a couple of sheep for your festival celebrations, you can do so without being prosecuted (at least some people can). From Farmers’ Guardian (from 2017):

No charges after stolen sheep found slaughtered in city centre flat

In the comments section below the article, a Heather Jones had posted this comment:

No evidence! Two sheep wandered into a flat and committed suicide! We lost a sheep after it was bundled into a car this is no deterrent. What about meat hygiene and animal welfare laws as well as stealing?

Leading academics continue to call for white people to be airbrushed out of history. From the Telegraph:

Universities must ‘decolonise’ the curriculum to boost black students’ grades, vice-Chancellors say

From the Independent:

University of Cambridge to investigate how it benefited from slave trade

From Breitbart:

Delingpole: Then Facebook Came for Paul Joseph Watson…

President Trump tweeted:

I am continuing to monitor the censorship of AMERICAN CITIZENS on social media platforms. This is the United States of America - and we have what’s known as FREEDOM OF SPEECH! We are monitoring and watching, closely!!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 3, 2019

When will the Radical Left Wing Media apologize to me for knowingly getting the Russia Collusion Delusion story so wrong? The real story is about to happen! Why is @nytimes, @washingtonpost, @CNN, @MSNBC allowed to be on Twitter & Facebook. Much of what they do is FAKE NEWS!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 4, 2019

.. and retweeted this from Lauren Southern:

Lmao at establishment conservatives who think they won’t be labeled the new “dangerous” / “extremist” voices when those to the right of them are all banned. Good luck with that one guys ????

— Lauren Southern (@Lauren_Southern) May 3, 2019

Also from Breitbart, another recent casualty of the cultural Marxists’ long march through the social media platforms, famous Hollywood actor James Woods:

James Woods Banned from Twitter Amid Silicon Valley’s Conservative Blacklisting Campaign

David Kurten made this observation:

Along with @PrisonPlanet, Facebook has banned Louis Farrakhan who is described by MSM outlets CNN and Washington Post as 'far-right'. The same Louis Farrakhan was represented by @sadiqkhan when he was a lawyer. Will Facebook now ban London's Mayor? https://t.co/nTpYeVlFJL

— David Kurten (@davidkurten) May 4, 2019

Of course after social media censorship there is a next stage. From Summit News:

From euronews, a “fact-check” that is a little bit economical with the truth about migrant crime:

Salvini claims he is saving Europe from Islam, what are the facts?

Matteo Salvini was interviewed on Hungarian Television. Quote:

“If we do not take back control of our roots, Europe will become an Islamic caliphate, “

The EU is apparently pressuring Italy to start allowing migrant boats again. From Breitbart:

Commission: ‘Urgent’ That Italy Reopen Ports, EU Share Migrants Across Bloc

A quote from the translated subtitles (@1:55):

From the BBC:

Christian persecution ‘at near genocide levels’

… according to a report ordered by Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt.

Perhaps surprisingly, the words Islam and Muslim are entirely absent from the above article. So who could be persecuting the Christians then, who could it be? A lot of the persecution is taking place in the Middle East, that could be a clue we suppose.

From Jonathan Turley’s blog:

Israeli Ambassador Calls For The Criminalization of Antisemitic Speech

A reminder of the need to defend freedom of speech from attack no matter what direction those attacks come from. Quote:

The implications of such laws for free speech are easy to dismiss amidst the sorrow of another attack. However, the free speech community must remain firm that free speech is not the cause of hate, it is solution to hate.

From Breitbart:

Nolte: Punk Legend Johnny Rotten Sounds Alarm over L.A. Homeless Epidemic

Apparently homeless people are camping on his front lawn, throwing bricks through the upstairs windows, and trying to steal the bars from his windows (presumably only the downstairs windows have bars). Apparently the new homeless are young and “gang-y”. Life in L.A ain’t what it used to be, we wondered if socialism might have something to do with that, again.

Finally there is some good news for cat lovers. A Japanese furniture manufacturer is making miniature sofas and beds for your favourite pet:

Japan Releases a Range of Miniature Furniture for Cats

Here is a video advert showing the cats relaxing on the furniture:

We made cat furniture
