Weekly Roundup Of News And Opinion - w/e 26 October

by The Participator – 27 Oct 2019

Our weekly roundup of news and opinion articles that we thought were important, mostly UK news but foreign news stories of interest to us as well. Please remember this is not intended to be a comprehensive news round up.

On Monday Boris’s deal was published at the government’s website:

EU (Withdrawal Agreement) Bill

From the Telegraph:

Britain will still be subject to EU law after October 31 under Government’s Brexit Bill

According to order-order, most Brexit Party supporters are not in agreement with Nigel Farage’s rejection of the bill:

Brexit Party Supporters Back the Deal

Last week the Letwin amendment had thwarted the government’s hopes of getting Boris’s deal passed by parliament in time for the October 31st deadline. There seems to still be some faint possibility of a no deal exit however. One possibility is that outcome could result from Macron’s vetoing of any extension. From the Times:

Growing risk of no-deal in six days after Macron blocks Brexit extension

From the Daily Mail:

Britain could come within 48 hours of a No Deal Brexit next week after France vetoed granting an extension to January 31

From the Express:

Bercow accused of shameless Brexit bias for blocking major vote on Boris Johnson’s EU deal

Boris’s attempts to get agreement for a December election faced opposition from various directions including from within his own party. From the Telegraph:

Tory MPs warn Boris Johnson they will not support his December election

Ken Clarke threatened that MPs would lower the voting age, according to the Express:

Ken Clarke reveals MPs will unleash ‘HELL’ on Boris’ election: We’ll lower the voting age!

Jo Swinson, leader of the Liberal Democrats, signalled her contempt for white males (despite being married to one):

Six white men stuck in the past, conspiring to wreck our future.#StopBrexit https://t.co/la9spWosab

— Jo Swinson (@joswinson) October 23, 2019

There has been a lot of commentary on social media about links between Swinson’s husband and George Soros’s Open Society. From Unity News Network (from earlier this month):

Social media erupts over Jo Swinson’s Husband Soros cash links

An intriguing post from John Ward at The Slog this week:

EXPLOSIVE: Why Boris is reaping the whirlwind of backing wrong-man Murdoch

Mr Ward draws our attention to the progress of the Comcast takeover of Sky. From Sky News (October 2018):

The end of an era as Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox exits Sky

Mr Ward describes the Comcast CEO Brian L. Roberts as:

an enemy of British independence in particular, and a free internet in general)

Brian L. Roberts is a silent but obvious enemy of We the People

From the Hill (2014):

Comcast, Time Warner execs have been big Obama supporters

Comcast CEO Brian Roberts has donated $76,000 to Democrats since 2006, compared to $13,500 in contributions to Republicans.

The article also states that these donations to Obama’s campaign were dwarfed by donations from a Comcast lobbyist:

$1.44 million for the president’s reelection campaign in 2011 and 2012, and $2.22 million since 2007

According to the Centre for Responsive Politics, Comcast has spent a staggering $206 Million on lobbying over the last decade:

From order-order, some news about Sky news:

Sky News’ ‘GP’ Is Actually Labour Activist

Meanwhile apparently Peter Oborne has parted company with the Daily Mail after his series of accusations about “Downing Street sources” spreading fake news in the broadcast media (including accusations against his (now former?) bosses). From order-order:

Peter Oborne Fired Contract Not Renewed With Daily Mail

Peter Oborne Attacks Amol Rajan on His Show

The full BBC program (interview starts at @1:09):

Fake News and Pumpkins

Mr Oborne has had an interesting career, he resigned from the Telegraph in 2015, complaining that the Telegraph was suppressing negative news stories about HSBC among other commercially influenced decisions.

He was a commissioner in a commission titled:

Islam, Participation & Public Life – Citizens UK

(Dominic Grieve was also involved in this). That organization produced this document:

The Missing Muslims – Unlocking British Muslim Potential for the Benefit of All

Mr Oborne has also been accused of being an apologist for the Ayatollahs in Iran. From Douglas Murray at the Spectator:

Memo to Iran’s apologists: President Ahmadinejad has denied the Holocaust

From the Express:

Julian Assange: Extradition case begins with UK taxpayer facing possible £600,000 bill

From the Express:

Corbyn’s radical ‘communist’ plan to nationalise football clubs… starting with Liverpool

From the Mirror:

From the Telegraph:

From Breitbart, a court case this week about an incident that occurred in 2017:

UK: 20-strong Gang Target ‘White Bastards’, Cut Off Teenager’s Hand with Axe

More details from the Manchester Evening News:

The road rage row that turned a Rochdale street into a battleground as mob set upon teenage tree surgeon… he had his hand severed by axe

The attack occurred after a group of tree surgeons intervened to stop the gang verbally abusing an old lady. This was a truly horrific attack, the victim will probably only ever regain 60 per cent use of his arm, and suffered a collapsed lung, yet the longest sentence any of the perpetrators received was 18 years, and he will probably be out in half that time. Another perpetrator, who apparently actually instigated the attack, was let off lightly with a 4 and a half year sentence. There was no mention of any racially aggravated component of the sentences in the reports, despite the clearly described racial slurs used.

From the UK government:

Injunctions to prevent gang-related violence: statutory guidance

From the Daily Mail:

Newlywed couple’s HORRIFIC injuries after gang of 12 thugs ambushed them with machetes and an AXE in ‘revenge attack following row with yob’

From Peterborough Today:

Peterborough teenagers left bloodied after being assaulted by gang of youths

The gang was described as “Asian”, but it wasn’t made clear whether they were Chinese, or perhaps of Pakistani origin?

From Breitbart:

From the Daily Mail:

Ex-Tower Hamlets councillor faces jail for decade-long housing fraud

From the Telegraph:

British man who fought Isil is first to be convicted of terrorism charge

From the Telegraph:

Women who are wolf-whistled or cat-called in the street should call 999, says Police Commissioner

A few years ago the Britain First group made headlines when they were arrested. Nowadays the group seem to be a subject that the mainstream media do not even want to mention. From the Britain First website:

BREAKING: Paul Golding ARRESTED at Heathrow airport by ‘SO15 Counter Terrorism Command’!

From the Metro:

Peer resists calls to apologise for saying firefighters at Grenfell were ‘racist’

From the Times:

From s4c:

How much does Migration cost Germany every year?

According to the above article, the recent wave of migration into Germany is estimated at over 2 million migrants, and the cost over their lifetime is estimated to grow to €900 billion. Meanwhile, more migrants keep coming.

It happened!

From the Daily Mail (earlier this month):

4 people were killed in a riot in Bangladesh apparently, something about a peaceful religion. From Deutsche Welle:

Deadly Bangladesh riot over Facebook post about Islam

Finally what may turn out to be some good news from the Good News Network, a company in France has come up with a process to recycle even the most difficult plastics that currently can’t be recycled:

New Factory That Uses Enzymes to Recycle All Plastics At Once Has the Backing of Major Corporations

Then again the story might turn out to be just a load of rubbish, only time will tell.
