by The Participator – 6 Oct 2019

Our weekly roundup of news and opinion articles that we thought were important, mostly UK news but foreign news stories of interest to us as well. Please remember this is not intended to be a comprehensive news round up.

Brexit faced another legal battle this week From the BBC:

Next week there is another case or part 2 of this case, according to the above article.

The rumours kept coming about several strategies that Prime Minister Boris Johnson might have up his sleeve to get us out of the EU on October 31st.

One possibility was the suggestion that the Hungarians may have agreed to veto any extension. From the Express:

However the Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó was in London, and he seemed to be playing down such rumours. From Hungary Today:

Szijjártó Praises Boris Johnson for ‘Fulfilling British People’s Will’

Szijjártó said: “We have read the rumours about this but the Hungarian government has not been approached with such a request.”

The Brexit Party continues to be disparaging about Boris’s attempts to reach a deal. From Breitbart:

Baroness Hale from the Supreme Court apparently was caught bragging about her “victory” over the Prime Minister. From the Express:

The BBC risked accusations of Islamophobia this week, as they produced a documentary which could be accused of criticizing “expressions of Muslimness”:

The teenager married too many times to count

Clerics are grooming vulnerable girls in Iraq and offering them for sex, using a controversial religious practice known as “pleasure marriage”.

It was a special type of Islamic marriage – a “zawaj al-mutaa” or “pleasure marriage” – and that it was a way of allowing religiously approved sex.

Finally a diverting story to take your minds off the deluge of mostly bad news. From the Good News Network:

Don’t worry though, there isn’t an obesity crisis in the bear population, apparently this is just a normal part of the annual cycle for these fearsome mammals. They have to get fat ready for the winter hibernation period.
