Our weekly roundup of news and opinion articles that we thought were important, mostly UK news but foreign news stories of interest to us as well. Please remember this is not intended to be a comprehensive news round up.

PERSECUTION OF CHRISTIANS IN THE SPOTLIGHT

From Breitbart:

Bishops were also voicing their concerns about the situation:

Quote:

“The murder by terrorists of 12 Christian hostages in Nigeria has been much ignored over Christmas. With deep sorrow let us pray for them and those close to them, and for God’s judgement on their killers. They are martyrs to Christ.”

NEW YEAR HONOURS

From the UK Government:

Former Speaker John Bercow was denied a peerage. Former Director of Public Prosecutions Alison Saunders was made a dame, but not everyone was happy about that. From the Times:

Past recipients of the prestigious MBE include Nick Lowles (in 2016) of Hope Not Hate, and Sunder Katwala who apparently was the General Secretary of the Fabian Society and now runs an obscure think-tank called British Future, which works to reduce the public's concern about mass immigration. From the Extremism Commission (published last year):

Also mentioned in the above article is one Fiyaz Mughal of Tell Mama, who was awarded an OBE in a previous year. Is the honours system fit for purpose, what do you think? Please leave a comment below.

From the Times:

The addresses included those of military personnel and people involved in counter-terrorism policing apparently.
